At the heart of this Latin American collaboration is Low Carbon City (LCC), a dynamic Medellín-based organization that works at the intersection of climate action, creativity, and community. In 2024, LCC and DearTomorrow teamed up to adapt the DearTomorrow model for Latin American audiences, co-creating a regional strategy grounded in local language, culture, and lived realities.
The result? A vibrant, multi-country, multi-generational engagement project that reached hundreds of people across the region, from children in underserved communities to emerging youth leaders and creative climate innovators.
The collaboration launched with a 200-person future imagining session in Mexico, where emerging climate leaders came together to explore personal visions of a livable future. Facilitated by Low Carbon City, this gathering used DearTomorrow’s letter-writing tools alongside storytelling, art, and dialogue to help participants articulate their hopes—and their roles—in building a just climate future.
This event laid the foundation for future programming, inspiring young people to see themselves not just as activists, but as narrators of their own climate stories.
In a deeply moving workshop in Medellín, 220 children from an under-resourced neighborhood were invited to participate in an artful future imagining session. Through games, drawings, and guided reflections, they explored the question: What does a good future look like for you and your community?
This event reflected the power of climate storytelling at its most accessible—giving children a chance to dream, reflect, and share their visions in ways that felt joyful and empowering.
Reaching adults in their 20s and 30s, LCC organized a public activation that brought the future-facing conversation to the streets. Passersby were invited to engage with climate prompts, write their own letters to the future, and reflect on how their choices shape the world to come.
This type of activation brought climate dialogue into everyday life, creating spontaneous, meaningful moments of reflection in public space.
Each year, Low Carbon City hosts the World Forum on Urban and Territorial Planning, and in 2024, DearTomorrow was front and center with a co-designed installation and program. Participants from across Latin America interacted with personal letters, postcards, and storytelling prompts in a space that emphasized emotional connection and intergenerational justice.
To celebrate and uplift creative climate work across the region, LCC and DT launched a Latin American Creative Climate Award and a mapping tool to showcase grassroots innovation.
Out of 62 submissions from across the region, six projects were honored—three receiving monetary prizes, and three receiving special mentions. The winners were announced during a celebratory webinar on April 4th, bringing visibility to local climate creativity and leadership.
The partnership closed the cycle with a virtual future imagining workshop for Latin American climate organizations on April 25th—bringing together voices from across borders to co-create regional visions for a thriving, resilient future.
These conversations, stories, and letters reflect a shared truth: Latin America is not waiting for change. It is actively shaping a future that is bold, inclusive, and full of heart.
